The Arctic Tundra is the coldest of all biomes, and is located in Northern Canada, the edges of Greenland, Alaska, and Northern Asia. The average yearly temperature is -18°F. The soil is very low in nutrients and soggy.

Only a few animals can live in these conditions, and the reason that they can is because of their adaptations. For example, polar bears have a thick coat to keep them nice and warm during the long winters, and their fur is white to camouflage them in the snow. The Lemming also has a thick coat to keep them warm. Seals also have a layer of blubber/fat under their skin to stay warm in the frigid waters.

Purple Saxifrage is an example of a plant that can live in this biome. This plant has adapted to its surroundings by growing close together and close to the ground. This keeps them warm and protected from the strong winds.
